Event Summary
The Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI) has invited Er. Chua Chong Kheng, Deputy Chief Executive of the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, to share Singapore’s experiences in railway planning and development. He will deliver a keynote address on “Mobility Transformation in Singapore - with a Focus on Railway Policy”. His keynote address will cover how the railway network in Singapore was built up over the years amidst a multitude of challenges, touching upon key policies that guided the rail network expansion in a sustainable manner while ensuring a high level of reliability. Some of the topics include the adoption of integrated land use and transport planning, the various Land Transport Master Plans which guided the rail network development along with other complementary land transport policies, and the transition to New Rail Financing Framework. The keynote address will also cover digitalization and decarbonization plans to prepare Singapore’s rail network for the future.
Following the keynote address, three distinguished Japanese academic professionals in the field of transport engineering and practitioners in the field of urban railway will join in a panel discussion. The participants are encouraged to consider what Japan and Singapore could learn from each other.
