研究概要

It has been feared that tsunami caused by possible East-sea-earthquake or Southeast-sea &South-sea earthquake will hit the coast in Japan on the pacific within this century. That's why ITPS started a joint research with Prof. Dr. Muneo Hori in the Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo in 2010 to prepare for the tsunami from the standpoint of ensuring safety as well as of maintaining public transport service that underpins the social life, which means the trains should halt for as short a time as possible and start the run as soon as possible if it is necessary to make them halt for the sake of safety, taking into account of the experience of the tsunami caused by the latest Chile earthquake in 2010.
The aim is to extract the effective measures to be undertaken further as well as the issues to be improved with a focus on passenger railway transport and to raise them to be discussed among the relevant people to the disaster prevention in the public transport.
