JTTRI Will Open New Offices in India and Europe

Tokyo, JAPAN―JTTRI (Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute) plans to open new offices in New Delhi and Brussels this year, expanding its activities in South Asia and Europe, in addition to its existing offices in Washington, D.C. and Bangkok.

• Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute - New Delhi Office (JTTRI New Delhi) will contribute to building human networks and relationships of trust with public and private stakeholders in India and the broader South Asian region, and address quality research, collaboration and cooperation
• Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute - Europe Office (JTTRI Europe) will conduct multifaceted research and analysis on Europe's advanced and mature policies and initiatives in transport/mobility and tourism, as well as deepen mutual understanding, collaboration and partnerships with European region

Comments from JTTRI Chairman SHUKURI Masafumi on the Purpose of Opening Two Offices

To further strengthen and advance our relationship with India--an important partner in supporting stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region--we will consider India to be the "third pole" alongside the United States and China instead of "an extension of Southeast Asia." In doing so, we will conduct research, collect information, and disseminate insights across a wide range of fields, including public transport, logistics, maritime and transport infrastructure such as ports, as well as maritime industries, maritime security, transport safety, decarbonization, and people-to-people exchanges and tourism, with particular attention to the mobility strategy promoted by the Modi administration. To facilitate this collaboration and to strengthen the partnership with India and the broader South Asian region, we have decided to establish the "JTTRI New Delhi."

Meanwhile, Europe is a strategic partner that shares universal values such as freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, and it holds significant influence in areas such as the development of international standards. The European Union which leads common policies, its member states, and other European countries including the United Kingdom are engaged in a wide variety of advanced initiatives in public transport/mobility, maritime transport from the perspective of economic security, rail revitalization and intermodal logistics including inland waterways as part of the preceding transition to a decarbonized society, and sustainable tourism. Through the newly opened JTTRI Europe, we will conduct multifaceted research and analysis on those developments and share our findings with stakeholders in Japan. At the same time, we will deepen mutual understanding through information dissemination from Japan, thereby contributing robustly to the sustainable development of transport/mobility and tourism in both regions.
