Event Summary

Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute ASEAN-India Regional Office (JTTRI-AIRO) established the Tourism Working Group (WG) with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand(MOTS) in December 2023 to promote mutual understanding, expand mutual exchange, and realize sustainable tourism between Thailand and Japan.
The WG has been discussing challenges of interest to both countries, including “National and Local Identities: Key Driver to Attract Tourists to Destinations -Tourism strategic measures and best practice in Thailand and Japan- and "Tourism Development Initiated by Community-Based Tourism Between Thailand and Japan“-Best Practices Exchange in Community-Based Tourism between Thailand and Japan-.
These challenges for the realization of sustainable tourism in both countries are common to not only the two countries, but also to ASEAN, South India, and other countries.
At this WG, through expats from both countries will exchange their sights regarding summary of the previous discussions, the current situation and future trends of tourism in ASEAN and South India beyond the bilateral borders, as well as themes to be addressed, the WG will discuss how to create high- value tourism destinations and tourism industry by utilizing National and local identities.
