Event Summary

In this seminar, Mr. Matsumoto and Mr. Fujisaki gave lectures on MaaS.

Mr. Matsumoto showed that a platform that could seamlessly provide multiple modes of transportation from search to reservation and payment would enhance user convenience and potentially uncover potential demand that had not been captured until at that time.
On the other hand, he proposed open data and cooperation between companies beyond modes as issues for the development of MaaS.

Mr. Fujisaki introduced the leading cases in Europe, such as policies for promoting MaaS, the actual situations of open data, introduction of each application, relationships between users, transportation businesses and MaaS administrator in Finland, Sweden, U.K. and Germany.

In the panel discussion, the moderator, Mr. Yamauchi, President for Research of JTTRI, and two Lecturers had a discussion. There were comments from the perspective of the difference between Europe where data is open and Japan, the existence of a public transport association in Europe, and the operation of public transportation by private companies in Japan. Furthermore, there was an opinion that many businesses would compete and new ones would be created to realize MaaS.

It was a successful seminar with over 385 participants from universities, research institutions, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, railway / transport organizations, local governments, railway companies, bus companies, other transportation companies, consultants, and media.
