Event Summary
Mr. Nakano and Ms. Takanashi gave a lecture on the results of a sociolinguistic analysis of the communications between inbound tourists and guides in the cities, regions of Japan, the US, Europe, and Asia regarding communication of foreign tourists at travel destinations. In this lecture, the considerations about ①the process of creating unique regional values and identities through dialogue, ②based on the needs and expectations of tourists, what to do for foreign tourists to better understand and enjoy their travel destinations through “dialogue” including words, facial expressions, gaze, and gestures, and ③how to deepen mutual understanding within a limited time, were reported.Mr. Yoshida gave a lecture on Odawara / Hakone SGG Club's efforts, such as guide activities for foreign visitors to Japan and the development of experiential tours, centered on the Hakone district, one of Japan's leading tourist destinations.
Ms. Fujita gave a lecture as background information on factors such as the increase in foreign tourists to Japan and the impact of LCC passengers, and points to implement tourism policy for Japan, which were ①effective promotion strategy that narrowed down the target group and time, ②polishing tourism content that took advantage of the appeal of the region, and ③improving the acceptance environment from foreigner’s perspective.
In the second half of the Q & A session, lively discussions were conducted, including implementation of promotion based on the high tourism needs of foreign tourists from the local perspective, questions from participants such as what to do for foreigners visiting Japan not only for visits but also for consumption.
The seminar was successfully held with over 110 participants from research institutes such as universities, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, local governments, tourism related organizations, railway companies, other transportation companies and consultants.
