Transport Institute(JITI)

Thank you for permitting me to offer you, the reader, a few words of greeting upon my assuming the duties as President of the Japan International Transport Institute.
Ever since its founding in 1991 as an independent foundation under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Institute has been engaged in the comprehensive research and survey of transport related issues. It also works to increase understanding and facilitate greater contact among all interested parties in the transport field through the hosting of conferences and seminars and similar activities, as well as evaluating and offering recommendations on transport policy issues.
Recently, the Institute has not only striven to grasp and analyze shifts in sea and air modes of transport, but it has also focused greater attention on global issues of significant international interest and growing urgency affecting all aspects of traffic and transportation such as transport security and the environment. In addition, the Institute has been deepening its cooperative ties with various international organizations such as the Internarional Maritime Organization(IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO). The Institute has also been actively broadening the areas where it conducts its activities to include not only the United States and the European Union, but various areas all around the world.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of the activities in which we are engaged. To this end, we hope this brochure will help give you a better understanding of what we do.
In closing, on behalf of the Institute, I would like to express our deep appreciation for the generous support provided to JITI ever since its founding by the Nippon Foundation.
