A challenge for advancing transport policy studies

To resolve various problems for a better future, we must continuously create new knowledge. This calls for continuous creation of new knowledge ? which is generated from the fusion of people's ideas and existing knowledge. And such fusion is only possible through meaningful interactions among people with multidisciplinary expertise. In addition, there is a greater demand for a smooth and safe flow of people and products for carrying out economics activities. In order to ensure the fulfillment of such needs at the regional, national and global level, development of transport system is highly indispensable.

Since transportation is a fundamental function for socioeconomic progress, the modality of transport policy should always be upgraded and expanded to maintain higher standards for the further development and progress of the region, nation and the world.

Institute for Transport Policy Studies (ITPS), being a non-profit public think tank, aims to serve as an interface between theoretical and practical transport policy research. Therefore, our research challenge is to address practical policy issues meeting the academic standard of scientific rigor. In addition, our subjects of study cover the whole range of transportation as well as comprehensive policy concerns, including regional, urban and environmental issues closely related to transportation. Therefore, we pursue our study with emerging research talents of various academic fields and experienced personnel from administrative agencies and the private sector.

One of our principles is that our institute should always be open to the public. Hence, we provide lively platforms for academic interactions with people outside our institute in a periodic manner. We host symposiums, colloquiums and seminars frequently for exchanges of expert opinions. On top of this, we also publish our research works. We will continuously try our best to further advance transport policy studies through building networks globally with concerned organizations and academic bodies.

As a Chairman of ITPS, I would like you to know how grateful I am for your additional guidance and cooperation with us.

Finally, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Nippon Foundation, which has kindly supported us since our establishment.
